The practice journal overview video
"This beautiful journal has really upped my violin playing and made practicing so much more rewarding and productive - very important to this full-time, working parent of two young kiddos! The simple prompts in each section really force me to get clear on what I need to focus on before digging in and - more importantly - to reflect on where I'm seeing progress. It's this second piece that really motivates me to want to come back and practice again. So thank you, Muse & Mate for being the best stand partner!"

This practice journal is perfect if the any of the following describes you:
- You want to practice but need more motivation or structure
- You want to make progress by practicing smarter not harder
- You want to organize and track your practice and your progress over time
What musical instrument is the practice journal for?

Is the practice journal dated?
The practice journal is not dated. You can start journaling at any time, just as you can pick up learning and practicing at any time.
There are 26-weeks' worth of journaling pages for Lesson Notes, Practice Observer, and Practice Planner. For a musician that practices on a daily-basis with weekly lessons, this practice journal will last 6 months. If you practice or take lessons less frequently, it will last for more than 6 months.
What if I'm not practicing everyday?
The Muse and Mate practice journal is designed for real life, in which practice will not (and sometimes should not) always be your top priority.
Since the practice journal is not dated, you can pick up where you left it if you take some days (weeks or months) off. You don't need to leave any pages blank.
I barely have time to practice, why would I bother journaling?
It sounds counterintuitive — the less time you have, the more important it is to take a few minutes to plan and reflect on your practice.
Having a plan and to be clear about what exactly you want to get out of this time is crucial to a productive practice session, especially when you don’t have a lot of time. It takes only a couple of minutes for you to write down what you want to work on and achieve in this time. Writing down your plan will give you the clarity and focus you need to make your short practice time as effective as possible.
Once you’ve had a productive practice session, take a couple of minutes to write down how you think your practice went, what went well, and what to do in your next practice.
Journaling about your practice takes very little time but has an outsized impact to your overall practice experience.
